Ethan thought it was really neat that Ella has just a single tooth on her pumpkin, because she does not have a lot of teeth herself!
Althougth E has been very excited to carve his pumpkin, he was less than thrilled when Errett actually cut off the top for him to clean it out! The smell made him gag and he was not about to stick his hand in that pumpkin! The sweet little man recovered quite quickly and was helping his sis to sort seeds happiily soon!

They loved watching Errett carve the happy faces on their pumpkins!

We are not really big fans of the scary, spooky, wicked part of Halloween, so we spent time reading some positive books about this holiday! This way we get to have fun with it, while emphasizing on it the way we want to. We have been reading The Pumpkin Gospel and The Pumpkin Patch Parable, along with other pumpkin books, over and over for the past few weeks. The kids chose the happy pumpkin faces in their books to have on their own pumpkins!

Here are the kids sorting out the seeds. We buttered and salted them, roasted them, and they were such a yummy snack! We finished the evening off with our pumpkin sugar cookie cutouts that Ethan and I had made previously and pumpkin muffins too! Yum!

Could fall be more fun???

Pumpkin Patch

Once again, it's pumpkin time!

We could not help but have some fun on the farm today!

Today was the first warm and sunny day that we have had here in a LONG TIME! It is my philosophy that a person can be one or the other, but very rarely both.

A few years ago I would have undeniably answered this question claiming to be a neat person. And I really was! When I was teaching school full time, there was a certain peace about coming home to my nearly perfect looking home...not a pillow out of place, simply PERFECT! I love to decorate and would frequent my favorite decor shops to bring home new pieces to add to the beauty of it's neatness! At any given time, Better Homes and Gardens could have come in and done a fabulous photo shoot! I was clearly a neat person. I had someone come and clean it for me, and even if it was dirty, well, who cares, it was neat and beautiful to me!

Then, I had kids!

A teacher friend of mine often told me that those pillows would not stay in place when I had kids. I thought she was crazy! Didn't she know that I was a "neat person"? My pillows would stay in their perfect place, even with children! The confession: I was wrong, she was right!

The pillows are a mess, as is everything else. Toys scattered across the floor as if a small tornado made it's way through the house. Cupboards are left open from explorations in my kitchen, area rugs are strewn across the floor from being used as blankets in imaginary houses, a train track here, a roller skate there, play food in between the two. My house is just simply a mess. The problem is: I JUST PICKED IT UP. My children are that quick. They can make a mess faster than I ever dreamed. I frequently (as in all day long) find myself saying things under my breath such as:
"I just picked that up",
"I just swept that",
"Don't you know I just scrubbed this floor?",
"Why did I even bother vacuuming this rug?",
"Ahhh, fingerprints everywhere!",
"What a mess!"

It has happened. I am no longer a neat person. I am now officially a CLEAN person. The messes just pile up over and over again. I have resigned to accept it. There is no changing it. I actually enjoy watching them play in their messes and getting into them myself, knowing that at the end of the day, we will pick up and start all over again.

I now am constantly cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning. I decided to get rid of the housekeeper. She would have to be here all day just to keep up...every two weeks will simply not do at this stage of the game! My mom is so proud that I have come away from the dark side, knowing that my home is rarely neat, but pretty darn clean (or as clean as any home can be with a 1 year old, a 3 year old, and a man living in it).

So this post is for you mom... and all your cleanliness- you taught me how to clean and now I actually do it! And also for you Sandy...for all your wisdom of what was to come-even when I denied it!

Oh, and did I mention, I am loving it?

Projects

If you know Errett, you know he ALWAYS has a "project" going! The project he really would like to be doing now is building us a new home (just a little project, I know). Since our house has not sold, he is doing a smaller scale project for now.

Whenever I wonder where our children get all their ENERGY from, I just remember who their Daddy is! The man has enough energy for three people (and so do his kids)- hence his continual need for projects!

Tonight he grabbed Ethan to head off to Home Depot. TROUBLE! They came back with a truck full of lumber for the "latest project"- bookshelf building!

He built beautiful bookshelves for the kids rooms, when we were decorating their nurseries, using a picture from a Pottery Barn Kids Catalog. They really turned out great- at least I think so. So he (and Ethan) have a plan to build more bookshelves and sell them. You can see that Ethan is quite the helper. He is prepared for whatever, with his ear and eye protection.

Anyone want to buy a bookshelf?

Airplanes & Apple Pie

Tonight I spoiled my boys! There are just a few things that Errett is passionate about in life...one of which is homemade apple pie! Each fall, I try and make at least a couple of homemade apple pies for him. He could actually eat the whole thing in one sitting, if he let himself.

Ethan and I love to do baking projects together. We decided it was time to make Daddy an apple pie today. He was my "helper" while we baked a pie. Three year old boys are such fun helpers in the kitchen. Thankfully, little sis was still napping so we actually had dough rolled out and apples sliced in no time at all.

When baking a pie, I typically leave out some extra dough when rolling it out to use for decorating the pie. Usually, I decorate it for the season (hearts for Valentine's Day, leaves for autumn,...). Today we were a bit more creative! Ethan, like his daddy, is passionate about just a few things in life...one of which is airplanes. It just happens that I have a fetish for cookie cutters and happen to have quite a collection, including a small jet plane. E was thrilled to decorate the pie with jet planes!

Both my boys were so proud of their pie...and even more excited to eat it!

By the way, it was delish!!!

Why e?

Why are we the "e" family. When one "e" (Errett) marries another "e" (Elizabeth) it is just meant to be!

But that is just where our "e" fun begins. You see, we met at Evangel University, while we were both students there. I was born and raised in Erie, PA. I am an elementary school teacher and my hubby works in the explosives field for ECI. You can plainly see why our children are named Emily, Ethan, and Ella.
